Roadways porter service to enhance devotee experience at Mahakumbh 2025 in Prayagraj

Prayagraj :  Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh government is leaving no stone unturned ensuring a smooth and memorable experience for the millions of devotees and tourists expected to attend the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj in 2025. As part of its efforts to make the event grand and well-organized, the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Department is preparing roadways porters to assist visitors arriving by bus.

The administration estimates that over 41 crore devotees and tourists will gather in Prayagraj for this monumental religious event. A significant number of these visitors are expected to arrive via roadways buses. To ensure their journey is as smooth as possible, the State Road Transport Department is focusing on providing efficient porter services at bus stations, helping passengers with luggage and ensuring a hassle-free arrival.

This initiative is part of a series of preparations being carried out to make Mahakumbh 2025 a well-coordinated gathering, reflecting the Yogi government’s commitment to ensuring the comfort and convenience of all attendees.

MK Trivedi, Regional Manager of Uttar Pradesh Roadways in Prayagraj, explained that the first point of contact for passengers at the Roadways bus station will be the porters. To ensure a smooth experience, the porters will receive special training. They will not only help with luggage but also provide basic information about transportation options and routes to the Mahakumbh.

The goal is to make sure that when passengers arrive at the Prayagraj Roadways bus stand, they find porters, ready to assist them, just like railway platform staff. These porters will work in two shifts of eight hours each. They have been provided with uniforms, which include blue pants and shirts, instead of the red ones worn by railway porters. Additionally, a brass badge with their identification number will be attached to their sleeve.

To ensure quality service, the Roadways department has carefully checked the porters’ backgrounds, including verifying their identity with Aadhaar cards and criminal records. The first batch of 16 porters is being trained at the Civil Lines Roadways bus stand.

Notably, Prayagraj’s Civil Lines Bus Station sees the arrival and departure of 118 buses daily, with more than 1.5 lakh Roadways passengers passing through the station. To ensure smooth travel for all, Roadways porters will be available to assist passengers, especially senior citizens and differently-abled travelers.

Banwari Lal, one of the Roadways porters, shared that during the Mahakumbh, they will treat all arriving devotees as guests, with special care for senior citizens and Divyangjans. He mentioned that they will not only help with luggage but also provide useful information about the routes and transportation options to reach the Mahakumbh, ensuring no inconvenience for the visitors.

The Roadways department will display a rate list at the bus station for porter services, ensuring transparency in the charges for the services provided to passengers.
